“You sure you don’t wanna stop and pick up some burgers or something, you know, road trip food?”
Day Two was upon us!

Finally, the first full day we’d spend at Walt Disney World! I had every day planned out months in advance. Today, being Monday the 14th, we knew we were going to go to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. I was so excited to go! When I went to WDW as a kid, I only ever visited Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom. I wasn’t the thrill-seeker back then so we didn’t go to Disney’s MGM Studios then (as it used to be known) or Epcot as we were little and not as cultured (we being me and my stepbrother on our trip with dad and stepmom). Anyway, back to present day, we decided today was right because there would be Extra Magic Hours that evening for resort guests (perks!) and we’d be able to stay til 1! Yay! If we did, there was always the chance we’d leave early to avoid rush and if we did everything we needed to do, of course. Anyway, I set up the three meals of the day (Deluxe Dining Plan ftw), which included a before-park-open breakfast at Hollywood & Vine. So we were going to be early morning risers (when weren’t we on this trip?) and hardly sleep.
We woke up around 6-6:30 to get ready before we left close to 7. The park opened at 9, and we had breakfast reservations at 8:05AM. From what I read online, we’d be able to go in around 7:45, depending on how many reservations there were and such. Even though Disney’s Hollywood Studios was close to our resort, I made sure we got out early to guarantee a speedy entry without the hassle of a long line and a wait at our breakfast restaurant. The bus showed up just as we got there at 7 on the dot, and we were the sole riders.

It was so cold in the bus though! AC to the max, and the sun had yet to come out so it wasn’t like we were sweating or dying from heat beforehand that we needed the AC. We arrived at Disney’s Hollywood Studios ten minutes later, and it was around early 7:15 or 7:20. Damn I guesstimated things way too early. Oh well, better than rushing later and getting there late. Online sites always warned about Disney buses and to plan things with longer waits and ride times; if anything, it probably suits summer or winter peak times more. So we grabbed some brochures and talked, and talked, and watched other families arrive (there was already a family before us there, I wonder what time they got there) to get their reservations on – either that or they were way too early for the park opening. Families being the key word…
Because the breakfast was a buffet featuring characters from Disney Junior! It was called Disney Junior Play ‘N Dine at Hollywood & Vine (that rhymes). All the families were there to take their little ones to see Handy Manny, Secret Agent Oso, and more. I knew it would have characters and there would be kids and such, but it was a breakfast – and a buffet – that would allow us entry into the park before it opened, so I took it. Anyway, close to 7:45 they started taking our names down on their fancy reservation clunky iPad looking machines and we were in the park by 7:55.

We weren’t able to really take many pics with an empty Hollywood Studios as they basically herded us through and towards the restaurant, but it was neat to walk the empty Hollywood Boulevard street of the park and take a lot of hipster non-straight-angled photographs on the way. We waited outside Hollywood & Vine, where they called out guest parties.

After about seven minutes (they seemed to be seating all the large groups first), they called us and we were in. It was a neat looking place. It had that diner feel to it, except there was a buffet area and there were mascots of kid cartoons walking around. Before we could even sit, Secret Agent Oso popped out of nowhere (creeping on Amber – she was creeped on a lot by these characters) and we took pictures with the odd yellow ‘bear.’

The breakfast buffet fare was joyful. I finally had one of the much talked about Mickey waffles; I had two plates and a half of yummy breakfast food. That and yogurt. I got Orange juice, but I also asked for coffee. Lord knows I would need it after only sleeping a mere four hours and we’d be spending the entire day at Hollywood Studios. Amber enjoyed the ambience though she’s not a breakfast person. We’ve discussed this a myriad of times, but she doesn’t like eggs, cereal, pancakes, bacon (I’ve noticed she’s an on and off bacon person), and other breakfast like foods. But of course, there was the perk of getting in early and not having to get a boring breakfast plate at the resort food court before coming. We took photos with Handy Manny and Jake the Pirate as well. The only character we missed out on was the girl from Little Einsteins. No clue what her name is. Anyway, we were out of the restaurant around 8:41. Now, from what I read online, we wouldn’t be able to leave the general area outside the restaurant until the park opened the main entrance to everyone at rope drop (which was 9am that day). But at least we’d have a head start – which we would need for Toy Story Midway Mania! Apparently this ride was ridiculously fun and extremely popular. Every site and person said to run over to the attraction early and get fast passes to guarantee entry, and if you were at park open, to ride it right away. We were going to do just that, and more!
So we were being held with a few other people outside Hollywood & Vine (I took some pictures of ducklings walking around) until the man told us he’d gotten word we could go! It was 8:50, so that meant the park opened ten minutes early. We mad dashed past Echo Lake towards The Sorcerer Hat. I looked to see the people making their way up Hollywood Boulevard from the entrance. Only one mother and her two kids somehow got ahead of us as we entered Pixar Place.

We immediately got Fast Passes for Toy Story Midway Mania (they were for 9:45-10:45 if I wasn’t wrong) and then made our way into the attraction. The queue was amazing. Disney always puts so much detail into their rides and the attraction, including the queue and exterior, in general. Amazing. I took an endless stream of pics as we walked through the ride queue – which had so many railings and twists and turns, in order to faciliate the long wait times (I read they get wait times of 160 minutes more on peak days, and lowest being over 60 on a regular day). We were the second group there, behind the sole mother and her two children. We were so pumped. THE RIDE WAS AMAZING! It’s 4D with the 3d glasses aboard a spinning vehicle where we went through multiple carnival style games where we had to shoot darts to blow up balloons, pies, suction cups, rings to toss, baseballs to break plates and so forth. Amber won this first round of TSMM, but I wasn’t far off (the bonus round at the end screwed me over). It was so much fun. No wonder it was beyond popular – plus it was practically a ride for everyone so families scurry to it with their youngsters who are too little or scared to ride the next two rides we went on.
After TSMM, we walked down Sunset Boulevard to ride Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith! I love that I love roller coasters now! There was a 5 minute wait time posted, but it was much shorter. The queue and pre-show was amusing (but why was there a Mitchell Musso poster there?). Then we got to ride the indoor coaster. It was so much fun! The beginning when you go from 0 to 60mph at the start was such a rush! Want to know something funny though? At the end of the ride, our cart stopped in a semi-dark tunnel before going into the off-loading exit area. We were there for a good five minutes or more. It was funny. At least it didn’t happen while we were upside down mid-ride in darkness! We loved the ride so much, that we rode it again! There was no wait again when we rode it the second time. This time we asked for the front row and only had to wait for the next train to ride. Epic! The music was fun too. I only wish the ride was better in the latter half of it, where it doesn’t have many inversions or steep drops. After riding the second time, we walked on over to The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror!!!!

I have never been on a ‘drop’ ride before so I was a little tense at first, but the ambience was so much fun and cool that I got over it. The wait time was 10 minutes and short, but it was a fun queue and the pre-show was cool so it didn’t matter. We got fast passes for it before going in so we hoped it was awesome to ride again… And it was! The ride was crazy! The initial rise scared me and I screamed throughout the ride. Everyone did! It was crazy! There was this scary dummy at the exit, and later in the day, we would just stare at it. It reminded me of Slappy the dummy from Goosebumps which was one of my biggest fears outside of Chucky back when I was a kid. But it wasn’t anywhere close to us, just near the exit by the elevator sides. Creepy. The ride was great. We were excited to ride it again later! We then went back to TSMM, which already had a wait time of about 40 minutes or more. It was like 10am! We got on the Fast Pass return line and swiftly made our way back onto those fun spinning contraptions through a variety of carnival games. I won this round. We made plans to ride at least one more time, to see who won the final round and broke the tie! Best two out of three! We would get fast passes for it after we did our fast passes for Tower of Terror. our way through ‘Streets of America.’ We took fun pictures of ourselves down fake New York and Sacramento. It was neat. Crazy too.
We then went to Muppet Vision 3D which unfortunately had the longest pre-show ever. They seemed to be waiting to get a whole bunch of people, and at the same time, it was a 25 minute show with around half of it standing in a huge waiting area. It was neat but very outdated. I was hoping with the film release last year it would’ve had some updates or something, but nope. The time killed the attraction for me, and Amber was definitely in favor or calling it the worst attraction of the day. Next was Star Tours, but our time for Tower of Terror fast pass return was near so we decided to walk back there and get that done with so we could walk back and get TSMM fast passes and finally ride Star Tours. After another fun up and down mania on Tower of Terror, we acquired TSMM fast passes and finally got to Star Tours around 11:30.

SO MUCH FUN! First off, what a cool queue. I can go on and on about how Disney just always does it right – and I already have. So I won’t again – except to say it was so freaking cool. Apparently the ride was updated (unlike the Muppets) just a year ago and is actually now called Star Tours – The Adventures Continue! It was awesome! The wait time was only ten minutes posted, but we made it through in less than five. Maybe a little more as Amber took a multitude of cell phone pictures. She’s a huge Star Wars nut. It was awesome. Then we rode it again! Of course! We spent a good couple minutes taking pictures in the gift shop at the end, and outside the ride with a racer machine (don’t know the name, Amber probably did). So neat!

It was about noon then, and we still had time before our 12:55 lunch at Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater so we walked over to the Sorcerer’s Hat where they were giving a Disney Channel Rocks show. They were just finishing up a Camp Rock 2 song (Demi!) before they did We’re All In This Together from HSM (Fuentes!). It was cool but we only saw the last seven minutes of the 15 minute show. Afterwards, I took a few pictures and then we decided to ride The Great Movie Ride to pass time before we went to our lunch. I had read about the ride being old and a lot of people skipping out on it, and there really was no wait except to load people on and find out how many people – it was a continuous 22 minute show that moved through old film scenes. But it was pretty cool and there was one really cool scene from Alien that was actually pretty scary and fun. When that ended, we went up Commissary Lane to Sci-Fi.

This was a place I’d been so excited to go to since I saw it online. We got there a lit before 12:55 and were seated promptly, even after I made the request to have front row car seats. See, it was set up like an old school drive-in theater in an outdoor parking area. But it was all indoors, dark with fake stars shining down and a huge screen showing old school horror comedy and sci fi bits, with some Disney toons here and there. Amber and I both got Chicken Wings for our appetizer. It felt like it never ended! It was soooo good! We also got the same entrée – Angus Chuck Double Bacon Cheese Burger! Talk about a lot of burger! It was scrumptious! To finish it all off, I got the Red Velvet Cheesecake (of course), and Amber got the Peanut Butter Chocolate Cake. Oh and we had Milkshakes! I got Strawberry and Amber got Chocolate. Everything was delicious and I love the whole atmosphere. I wish there were still drive in theaters even though I don’t have a car.
After lunch, things went by pretty fast as we rode rides again. After our fast passes to TSMM (Amber won that final round but I was so close!) we went to ride Rock n Roller Coaster again, and Tower of Terror again. Star Tours again too. At some point we went to see The Voyage of The Little Mermaid which was a fun 17 minute show near Pixar Place. We never had wait times over 20 minutes, most less. I planned this thing perfectly, not to brag. We caught a glimpse of the Pixar Pals Countdown to Fun! Parade but we didn’t catch the whole thing as we went to get fast passes for Tower of Terror again and then we went to see Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage at 4pm. Before going to see the show, we went to grab slushies to take to the it. On the way we saw several street performers doing old Hollywood stereotypes and roles. There was this hilarious girl that me and Amber just kept mocking throughout the entire day. OH MY! Anyway, back to the Beauty and the Beast show.

I loved it! We got great seats, even though they were slightly off to the side, and enjoyed the whole half hour show. We then rode ToT and made our way over to the American Idol Experience at 5pm! It was really cool and like the show! I voted for this really great 16 year old girl who was visiting with her school band and she sang Miley Cyrus’ The Climb. I can’t recall her name but she ended up winning. She would compete in the final show later at 7pm, which we didn’t see, but I hope she won that too so she could audition for the real American Idol next year and skip the lines. If she makes it, I’ll remember her and will know I saw her back here first!
After that it was raining, so we went to see the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular. But after five minutes, it ended. It seemed like it had started earlier than the times guide posted, or it ended early for some reason (it was a covered stage so I don’t think the rain was involved). Oh well. We decided to ride Star Tours again because it was awesome. We found out there’s multiple scenarios you can see and up to 54 combinations. We were able to see a lot of them when we rode the ride (we ended up riding it four times) and I only now checked and saw we only missed two scenarios (one involving the Wookies, sadface). After that, we went to get dinner! We had 6:20pm reservations at 50’s Prime Time Café! It was very cool and old American style with everyone being your aunt, uncle, cousin or some other kooky family relative. It took a while to get seated, and we ultimately got a corner in a cozy looking room. The seats were very close to one another though, so it was awkward but still fine. There was an old couple next to us, of which the guy was stepped on by the waitress, er cousin, so she ended up giving him a free dessert which he wouldn’t eat so he gave it to this girl and her mom who came later. If we didn’t have desserts included in our plan, I would’ve hoped we’d have gotten the freebie!

I got the Chicken Noodle Soup for an appetizer, and Amber got the atrocious (I’m biased against onions) Beer Battered Onion Rings For Two (not really, just for her). She got a milkshake and I decided to order an alcoholic beverage – Dad’s Electric Lemonade, which came with a cool glowing cube, or “experimental electric ice cubes” as they were promoted. Our cousin, though, grilled me and looked at my ID forever and asked questions until she seemed okay with it and then another ‘cousin’ came over later and asked to see my ID because they couldn’t take expired IDs. I don’t know what the other cousin saw, but it wasn’t expired. It still says Under 21 but that’s because I got the card at the start of last year when I was still 20 and it doesn’t need to be renewed for a couple of years. If I was rude or mean, I would’ve said something but I just let the cousin look at it before saying it was a-okay and me finally getting my drink before the entrée. The drink wasn’t even that great, but the cube was so it was worth it. Maybe not worth all the hassle though. Anyway, the food. Amber got A Sampling of Mom’s Favorite Recipes which had crispy fried chicken, fork tender pot roast and traditional meatloaf with all the fixings. Damn! GOOD! But a lot! I got the Grilled Boneless Pork Loin which was very delicious. For dessert, Amber got S’mores! I got a Strawberry Ice Cream Sundae. Both yummy but we were so full by dessert time. We hadn’t realized it but we spent close to two hours at dinner. We left at 8 and made our way over to Fantasmic!

The show was at 9pm (there was another at 10:30pm but we decided that after the show we’d just ride TSMM one more time and then go home) so we were there at a good time when we got there close to 8:30. It was packed though and I wish we could’ve come earlier – until we got perfect seats right in the front, middle left. Amazing! How? After the long route to the show, we made it to the seating area and saw they weren’t letting people down the filled rows. But I saw tiny spots here and there so I went up to them and said oh our friends are already there, so she let us in. Total lie and I didn’t even have to ask Amber to lie for me. I’m getting better at this! We found two spots smack dab in the front. Not two rows back or anything – the front! At 8:30, in a packed amphitheater. Anyway, after some fun pre-show games and sing a longs with these fun hosts, the show began! It was slightly distracting at first when we could see the Illuminations fireworks in the distance from Epcot, but eventually that was away from sight. Fantasmic was amazing and cool and we got wet and I got loads of pictures. It was a mission getting out though, but it was worth it.
To end the day, we went back to Toy Story Midway Mania for one last go. It’d be our fourth time riding it, and it’d end the day in a full circle as we started on that ride. If you know me, you know how I am about having things in full circle perspective. We actually rode all the main rides there four times each that day! There was a 30 minute wait time posted, but it was really only about 20 as it was for resort guests only now that the park was technically closed outside of extra magic hours. This time, I won. So in the end, Amber won twice and I won twice. We have to go back and break that tie! But we didn’t – that’ll be in the future! We walked down Hollywood Boulevard with all the intention to go back to the resort and sleep before we saw all the shops and decided to get some souvenir shopping out of the way. We ended up leaving around 11ish and getting to our resort not long ago. We were so tired when we hit the room and we hadn’t noticed til then. We had so much adrenaline and fun the whole day and we work so well as best friends and ride partners that we kept ourselves awake and pumped. But now was time to knock out… because the next morning we were going home.
Home to Hogwarts.
